OUR PRACTICE'S SCHEDULE:

• Tracy will be off on Thursday, March 8th to attend the Ohio
  Speech-Language-Hearing Association’s state conference. She will also
  be taking the week of April 8th off after Easter.
• Ellen will be off March 20-23 and the week of April 8th after
  Easter.

• 14th ANNUAL SUMMER AND BEYOND FAIR:
  WHERE: St. Michael Woodside Party Center, Independence
  WHEN: Saturday, February 25th, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  Visit and talk to representatives from camps and organizations from
  around Ohio for summer programs that are available. We will bring back
  a copy of the directory to the office for you to look at, if you can’t
  make it to the fair.

• CONNECTING FOR KIDS SUMMER FAIR:
  WHERE: Rocky River Civic Center
  WHEN: Monday, March 26th, 6- 8:30 p.m.
  Come meet local therapists, discover after-school programs and visit
  with summer-camp providers. Learn more about West Side resources for
  your child. This is a free, drop-in program where you will get a chance
  to talk one-on-one with these providers.

LANGUAGE TIPS FOR THE NEXT THREE
MONTHS:

• HOME ACTIVITIES FOR SPEECH SOUNDS:

• • Create a sound book: find
    words or pictures in the newspaper or magazines that contain his/her
    target speech sound.
  • Read comics and find the words that contain his/her target
    sound.
  • Have a scavenger hunt: search
    for food items that contain his/her sound while grocery shopping.
    

• HOME ACTIVITIES FOR LANGUAGE
  SKILLS:

• • LEAP YEAR IDEAS:
  • • What are all the things that
      leap/jump?  Where do they live?  How are they
      different/similar?  (e.g.: deer, frog, grasshopper,
      kangaroo)
    • What are different words for
      jump? (e.g.: bound, hurdle, spring, leap, bounce)

  • ST. PATRICK’S DAY IDEAS:
    • Make St. Patrick’s Day
      shakes: Print out a recipe and work on following directions;
      talk about colors (if adding green food coloring); talk about flavors
      (add mint extract); talk about the temperature (cold), etc.
    • Starting March 1st:
      Allow your child to “earn” a gold coin when you catch them using their
      good speech/language skills to work for a special St. Pat’s treat.

DEAR LAKESHORE CLIENTS AND FAMILIES: As we prepare for the winter and holiday seasons approaching, please remember to inform us if you will be taking any days off.
Tracy will be off the week of December 26th-30th. Ellen will be off December 13-January 1st. We sincerely thank you for all of your well wishes during Ellen’s surgery and recovery.
With the new year approaching, please take a moment to contact your insurance company to confirm benefits. There may be changes to number of visits, copay, etc. Let us know if there are any changes.

SOCIAL SKILLS CLASSES COMING IN JANUARY!!!Starting Thursday, January 19th, we will be hosting a social skills class for middle and high school students. It will take place the third Thursday of every month from 6:30-7:30 here in our office.
Topics will range from initiating and exchanging conversation to reading body language. Typical peers will periodically be involved.
Each class will be $25, payment must be made prior to or on the date of the class. Details will be posted on our website-www.lakeshorespeech.com.
We hope to start another social skills class for ages 7-11 this spring. Please let us know if you have an interest in your child attending.
LANGUAGE TIP OF THE MONTH:
Make a Snowman: You can do this activity in the great outdoors or move your snowman-making inside, using pieces of precut construction paper for three large snowballs and adornments. Have the child walk you through the process of making a snowman verbally, helping him to build as you go. Give choices for the eyes, nose, hat, mouth and other decorations. If you're working outside, for example, bring a few different potential snowman hats. Those working indoors should have cut-outs in different colors ready.
